Help Theo and Savannah Heal
Two beautiful cats who have been through so much.
For Theo, moving meant pain.
For Savannah, being found didn’t mean she could go home.
Today, both are safe and recovering at Help Humane, and you can help support the cost of care that they desperately needed.
Your gift will be matched dollar for dollar, up to $10,000 in matching funds.

Theo is learning that it’s safe to move again
We first knew Theo as a tiny kitten. When he left Help Humane with his adopters, we hoped he was beginning a lifetime of love and care.
Two years later, Theo and his sibling were returned to us. We always welcome our adopted cats back. But as his adopters were leaving, they mentioned something that worried us: Theo sometimes limped on a back leg. What we saw was far more serious than an occasional limp.
Theo could barely walk. He was falling out of his litter box and crying out in pain as he tried to move around his cage. Everyday things like taking a few steps, changing position, and using the litter box had become painful struggles. His adopters sadly told us he had never been taken to a veterinarian.
We couldn’t change what Theo had already been through. But we could get him help. Veterinary examinations revealed severe damage to his hips, and Theo received surgery to relieve his pain and help him move comfortably again.
Now his recovery involves more than healing from surgery. Theo is timid and hesitant to move, as though he’s afraid the next step will hurt. We’re giving him patience, gentle care, and time to discover that things can be different now.
We want his days to hold more than the fear of pain. We want him to feel comfortable, explore his surroundings, and enjoy being a young cat.
Your gift will help pay for the surgery that made those possibilities real.
Savannah is finding her way back to comfort
When Savannah was found outside, she had already been declawed on all four paws. With no way to defend herself, she needed immediate safety and care.
Her microchip led us to her owners. We hoped it would reunite her with her family. Instead, we learned they didn’t want her back. Savannah came into our care needing surgery for bladder stones. We made sure she received treatment and hoped she could begin settling into a more comfortable life.
Then she suddenly became ill again. She began vomiting and gagging. She refused to eat. Instead of a quiet recovery, Savannah faced more examinations, more tests, and nearly a week of care at two different hospitals, including treatment by specialists.
There is still no firm diagnosis. But with medication, Savannah has improved enough to return to Help Humane. She is eating and drinking and is no longer vomiting. This sweet girl is even purring.
After days of worry, those small, ordinary signs of comfort mean so much. They don’t answer every medical question, but they give us something hopeful to share: Savannah is back in our care and feeling better.
The bills for that care remain. Your donation will help pay them, and help carry the cost of being there when Savannah needed someone to say yes.

Your kindness can go twice as far

More about their veterinary care

Theo’s surgery
X-rays showed that Theo had Legg-Calvé-Perthes disease, a condition in which the blood supply to the head of the thigh bone is disrupted, causing the bone to die and collapse.
Theo needed surgery on both hips to relieve his pain and restore comfortable movement. A generous veterinarian discounted the procedure, but the surgery still cost $2,000.

Savannah’s treatment
Savannah needed surgery to remove bladder stones. When she later began vomiting, gagging, and refusing food, she needed further investigation and treatment.
Her care included bloodwork, X-rays, ultrasounds, specialist consultations, and nearly a week at two hospitals. The bill for Savannah’s care came to $15,000.
There is still no firm diagnosis, but medication has helped her improve. She is back at Help Humane, eating, drinking, and no longer vomiting. She still requires medication to keep her stable, and will need time to regain the weight she has lost.
